The Physics major is very sequential as most courses are prerequisites to the next; many courses are only offered in fall semester or spring semester. Please see your academic advisor to discuss course sequencing. Courses must be taken in prerequisite order. Electronic approval for courses requiring prerequisites must be obtained each registration. Grades of C or above must be earned in all physics requirements.

For students interested in the Accelerated BS Physics to MS Materials Science and Engineering Program, please see information below and speak to your academic advisor about the opportunity. The combined BS to MSMSE program is 144 credits, 120 for the undergraduate degree and 30 credits for the master’s degree. However, up to 6 graduate hours may be counted towards both degrees. Students complete the undergraduate degree first, taking no more than 6 credits of graduate coursework in their senior year, which will then be used to satisfy both degrees.
- Admission Criteria: Students must have a minimum 3.00 major GPA and a minimum 3.00 overall GPA. Students must provide the Program Coordinator of the Materials Science and Engineering MS Program with a copy of their 海角社区academic transcript and a personal statement describing their interest in the Material Science and Engineering graduate program.
- Approved Curriculum: The graduate courses EMA5104 and EMA5114 replace the 6 credits of major electives that are normally required for the Physics BS. As the 海角社区Graduate School requires students to maintain a graduate GPA of at least 3.00, students are expected to get a grade of B or better in EMA5104 and EMA5114 in order to continue on to the MS program in Materials Science and Engineering. The MS program requires a total of 30 credits, so students who have completed EMA5104 and EMA5114 as part of this accelerated pathway will have 24 credits remaining to complete the MS degree.
Free Electives (10 credits)
This degree requires a minimum of 120 total hours with 48 upper (3000/4000) level hours. Free electives may be courses in any discipline (provided the required prerequisites are met) and they are the hours needed to satisfy the total hour requirement. These hours may vary (consult your advisor about free elective hours needed to graduate).
