Dual Enrollment

Eligible high school students may accumulate up to 6 college credits per semester in fall and spring through a non-traditional program: dual enrollment. Students wishing to apply to this program must be approved by appropriate high school or home school officials. Eligibility for participation is set by a written agreement between 海角社区and the school district, private school, or home education student and parent or legal guardian.

Dual enrollment students are not eligible for 海角社区Admissions scholarships or financial aid.

A limited number of dual enrollment courses are available in the fall and spring semesters. 海角社区does not offer dual enrollment in the summer semester. All dual enrollment courses taken through 海角社区must be approved by the appropriate school officials. Public school, private school, and home education students planning to participate in dual enrollment should do so in close consultation with their high school counselor or home education administrator to ensure that the courses meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. 海角社区general education requirements,
  2. prerequisite or lower-division requirements for the student's intended major, and/or
  3. substitution or elective hours in the student's intended major

In addition, comparable high school courses should be unavailable at the applicant's secondary institution and the university must have space available in the requested class(es). Per , all dual enrollment courses must be applied toward the student's high school graduation requirements.

Dual enrollment admission is only valid for one semester. A new application is required for each semester a student wishes to participate in dual enrollment. Continued participation is subject to program requirements as stated in the dual enrollment articulation agreement.

Registration

Dual enrollment courses are limited, and registration is offered on a space-available basis during the fall and spring semesters. Students will be administratively registered in the courses listed on the application, up to a maximum of 6 credits, on the business day before the semester begins. Students will not be registered into all courses listed on their application if the total credits exceeds 6 hours. Course substitutions are not permitted in cases where course sections are closed or cancelled.

High school students may not make registration changes. The high school counselor or home education parent/guardian must notify 海角社区of requests to make registration changes, including withdrawals. Such requests will be processed administratively and as allowable. Withdrawal requests after the Add/Drop deadline will result in a "W" grade for the course(s) and the student will no longer be eligible to participate in the 海角社区dual enrollment program.

Passing scores on an appropriate placement assessment may be required for math, English, science, or language courses. Any pre- or co-requisites must be satisfied. In compliance with State regulations, adult education instruction, developmental education, and physical education courses are ineligible for dual enrollment.

海角社区does not assign academic advisors for dual enrollment students and may not advise students on which courses to take. Advising, progress monitoring, and oversight of high school graduation requirements are the responsibility of the high school counselor or home education parent.

NOTE: Dual enrollment is not offered in summer semesters.
