The program consists of 30 credit hours that include courses in specialized settings (i.e., healthcare, mental health, legal, DeafBlind), mentoring, research, service learning, and intercultural contexts.  You can review the catalog program of study and  admissions requirements by selecting the appropriate button below.  The current course sequence is also provided below.

The General Practitioner concentration is offered via distance learning (no need to relocate).  The master's program is developed in accordance with current spoken and signed language research and strives to provide students a global perspective on the interpreting profession, a foundation in interpreting studies literature, and a growth mindset for lifelong learning and skills development. Many graduates from the General Practitioner concentration are working as interpreter educators; however, teaching interpreting is addressed more extensively in the Interpreting Pedagogy concentration

The mission of the General Practitioner concentration within the MS Degree in ASL/English Interpreting is to provide pre-and post-certified students with specialized skill development, a foundation in interpreting studies literature, and a growth mindset for lifelong learning and skills development. With a curriculum developed in accordance with current spoken and signed language research, our goal is to bring students closer to national certification, or if already certified, to advance the use of ASL and English in specialized settings that include mental health, medical, and legal arenas.
