  • Freshman Admit Nursing Program

    Admission Access

    Each year, a large number of students apply for entry into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, and there are often many more qualified applicants than the number of seats available in the program.  The seats for this track are limited by student-to-faculty ratio guidelines for clinical education settings. Minimum standards for safety are set by the Florida Legislature, and additional determinations for safe practice are made by the program with direction and recommendation from the hospitals, the community of interest, and our partners. We currently offer up to 50 FAN seats each fall (August).

    Because grades are a predictor of success in the program as well as on the national licensing exam, they play an important role in the admissions process.  One's weighted high school cumulative GPA is used as part of the admission process as a pre-nursing student at UNF.  The pre-nursing designation now requires a minimum 4.00 weighted high school cumulative GPA to be admitted.  For FAN consideration above and beyond standard pre-nursing admission, one's high school science GPA as well as SAT, ACT, or CLT scores are used to qualify candidates for potential admission.  Additionally, applicants may be asked to submit documentation beyond the minimum requirements in order to assist in the selection process.  Letters of recommendation and resumes are neither requested nor encouraged.

    Please note, students who enroll in the FAN track and exit without completing it cannot apply for admission into the Regular Prelicensure (RPL) BSN track at a later date.  Additionally, this track is not meant for those entering 海角社区from high school with more than 30 hours from accelerated mechanisms &/or dual enrollment.  If an applicant is earning more than 30 college credits while enrolled in high school, consider applying for the RPL BSN track.  Those coming into 海角社区from high school with an Associate of Arts (A.A.) earned through dual enrollment at a Florida public institution should request consideration for the RPL BSN track instead, too.

    Admission Requirements

     Freshman admission requirements for the university are located at this web page Freshman admission requirements. Consideration for the FAN track currently requires:

    1. Admission to 海角社区as pre-nursing major (requires minimum 4.00 weighted high school GPA) for the fall semester;
    2. Combined ACT minimum score of 21, combined SAT minimum score of 1080, or Classic Learning Test (CLT) minimum score of 69; and,
    3. Minimum 4.00 weighted high school science GPA*.

    *Completion of admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.  Admission offers for this program will now be handled at the university level; the university will release the first batch of Fall 2025 decisions on or around Nov. 13, 2024, followed by batched decisions on or around Dec. 18, 2024, and on or around Jan. 29, 2025, before moving to rolling admission notices after that date.  Question may be directed to admissions@unf.edu

    Items Required if Admitted

    If admitted to the FAN BSN track, there will be several things required prior to beginning the first clinical course in the program, which will be fully addressed ahead of that enrollment for sophomore year:

    1. Proof of current CPR certificate for adult, child, infant, and 2-person;
    2. TB skin test or chest x-ray (negative for active disease) within the previous 12 months;
    3. Immunization (with titer proof) against Hepatitis B;
    4. Positive Varicella (chicken pox) titer (vaccine, then titer if necessary);
    5. Tetanus/Diphtheria: Tetanus/Diphtheria (TD) booster within the previous two (2) years OR Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap) within the preceding five (5) years;
    6. Seasonal influenza vaccination;
    7. Health report indicating that there is no health condition present that would prohibit providing patient care;
    8. Background check (fingerprinting required as part of this); and,
    9. 12 panel drug screen.

    Additionally, there are specific technology requirements for the program.
