Residential Networks

Residential networks are the wired and wireless connection provided in the Residence Hall. Most rooms in the residence buildings is equipped with a hard wire Ethernet connection (one per person). Additionally, wireless connectivity is available throughout all rooms.

This is the wireless network for parents and visitors. When they select the UNF-Visitor network on their device, they will be prompted to register by providing their name, email address, internet provider and cell phone number. A SMS text containing a username and password will be sent to the phone number that was given. After entering the username and password on the login page, visitors will have access for seven consecutive days. Visit 海角社区Visitor Wireless Network Registration for step by step instructions.

myDevices Portal:

Students can register up to four wireless devices using the myDevices portal. They can go to the 海角社区Visitor Registration webpage and login using their 海角社区ID and password. This is where game consoles and streaming devices can be granted wireless access.

Wired Connection Available in Most Rooms:

Students living in the most of the residences are also provided with an Ethernet connection (hard wire). If the student has an Ethernet jack in the room they will need to provide their own Ethernet cable to plug in and connect to their computer. Some rooms may require the use of a mini-port, which can be acquired by submitting a Housing and Residence Life maintenance request.

Network Access Control - OnGuard:

Network Access Control (NAC) is a networking solution that controls how computers connect to the campus network. Computers that do not meet the security requirements of NAC will not be allowed to connect to the campus network. The purpose of NAC is to prevent computers that lack basic security features from accessing the campus network and placing other computers at risk of cross-contamination from worms and viruses that can permanently harm your computer and computers across the network.

The university is using a product called ClearPass OnGuard that checks your computer to ensure it meets the requirements of NAC along with managing access to the network.

Resident students are required to install OnGuard to gain wireless network access in 海角社区housing units. It is necessary for machines to meet the following requirements to install OnGuard in order to connect to the wireless network.

Customer Responsibility

All that students need to connect to Residential wired networks is a relatively new personal computer with a gigabit Ethernet adapter and Ethernet cable. If a student plans to connect to a wireless network, they will want to have a 802.11n or 802.11ac wireless adapter (either 2.4 or 5GHz).

Students are required to install Onguard to gain access to the networks.

How to Use

Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Run the Ethernet cable from your Ethernet adaptor to the Ethernet jack in the wall or connect to a wireless network.
  2. Open a web browser. When prompted, use your 海角社区ID and password to login.
  3. You will be asked to install OnGuard to gain access to UNF's network.
