RecWell Policies
Participants and guests in RecWell facilities, fields and programs are expected to be familiar with rules and regulations and to conduct themselves accordingly. These rules and regulations are subject to change with industry best practices.
Competition Pool Complex
- Shower before entering
- No running, rough play, smoking or vaping within the pool area and facility
- No prolonged breath holding, no prolonged under water swimming
- No band-aides or chewing gum in the pool
- No food or beverages in pool or on pool wet deck
- No glass or animals within the fenced pool area
- Do not swallow the pool water, it is recirculated
- Do not use the pool if you are ill with diarrhea
- Management not responsible for lost or stolen items
- Pool use not permitted outside of scheduled hours
- Lifeguards required for open-rec use and programs
- No diving off of dive blocks – for use by 海角社区Swim Team only
- Use of personal floatation is at the lifeguard’s discretion
- No swimming allowed during severe weather, heavy rain, or when lightning and thunder can be seen or heard. See Weather Safety information below
- People with health problems (including open cuts, wounds or known communicable diseases) and people using alcohol, narcotics, or other drugs that cause drowsiness should not use the pool without consulting a doctor first
Competitive Sports
Club Sports
- All officers need to be currently enrolled A&S fee paying students at the 海角社区.
- Any currently enrolled 海角社区student may submit a request to start a new club sport as long as its goals and objectives do not duplicate another existing club. The only exception is if there is a difference in gender between the two (i.e. Women's Soccer vs. Men's Soccer).
- Registration for Clubs expires July 1st. Clubs must re-register with the Osprey Involvement Center to remain active
Fields & Courts
- All requests for event or reservation of space should be submitted online for routing. Reservations must be made at least 14 days in advance.
- External contracts may require more lead-time to confirm availability and complete contractual requirements.
- The Department of Recreation and Wellness reserves the right to determine safety of the playing field based on weather. Groups are expected to adhere to the Thunder and Lightning Policy. Groups are also to understand that periods of heavy rain may soak the playing field enough to make it hazardous both for the participants and for the care of the field.
- RecWell administration reserves the right to cancel field use based on assessing weather impact to participant safety or field care.
- 海角社区Recreation and Wellness contracts with a concessions vendor who has the first right of refusal for all concession sales.
Field House
- Osprey ID Card required for entrance.
- All users must have a signed liability waiver.
- Appropriate athletic apparel is required. Shirts must be worn at all times.
- Only non-marking athletic shoes are allowed on wood floors and mats.
- No dunking is allowed, except during intramural play.
- Hanging on rim or net is prohibited
- Headphones must be used with all personal audio devices at all times.
- No food or drink allowed with the exception of water in a plastic, spill-proof container. All water bottles must be placed away from the activity area. No glass bottles allowed.
- Please use the Field in a responsible and courteous manner.
- Please return all equipment to the front desk after use
- Please be courteous of other patrons and share the courts when necessary
- Report any damaged or faulty equipment to the on-duty staff
- The Department of Recreation and Wellness is not responsible for any personal items left unattended and/or unsecured in the Field House. Personal items may be placed in day-use lockers which are available on main gym floor.
- The Department of Recreation and Wellness employees have the final say in policy interpretation and enforcement. Failure to comply with any of the above policies may result in temporary or permanent loss of Field House privileges.
Men and Women's Locker Room Policies
- Personal belongings must be kept in a locked in a locker.
- Daily use only, patrons must bring own lock to secure belongings in locker.
- Locks can be purchased at the Member Services Front Desk in the Student Wellness Complex.
- Any contents left overnight will be removed and can be picked up at the Field House front desk.
- 海角社区is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Floor may be slippery when wet.
- No food or drinks permitted in locker rooms with the exception of water bottles.
- For the privacy of our patrons, the use of cell phones, cameras, and any other audio or video recording devices is strictly prohibited.
Intramural Sports
- All participants must register with IM Leagues to play any sport. Instructions on how to register is located on the Intramural Sports website
- Faculty and staff personnel by 海角社区are eligible to participate in the Intramural Program with the use of their faculty or staff ID card.
- 海角社区Alumni are eligible to participate in the intramural sports program for a fee.
- Men and Women must compete in the respective division unless there are not enough participants to establish a particular league of play.
- A person may compete for only one team per sport. Exception: a player may compete on a men's or women's team and a co-rec team. Once a person has participated for a team, he or she is not eligible to transfer to another team. In the event a player's team forfeits out of the league, a player may appeal to the Intramural Coordinator to be placed on another team. Upon checking in at a game, the person is considered to have participated for that team.
- An individual who has competed in professional athletics will be ineligible from competing in that sport or it's counterpart for one (1) calendar year from the date in which they last played. He or she will be listed under the same regulations as ex-varsity athletes.
Behavior Expectations
- A team must have a 2.85 sportsmanship average throughout the season to be eligible for the playoffs. Teams must maintain that 2.85 average throughout the course of the playoffs to remain eligible for competition. A team that receives a 0, 1, or 2 sportsmanship rating during the playoffs is subject to dismissal from further tournament play.
- Playoffs will be held in all divisions of play. RecWell reserves the right to change tournament qualifications with little or no advance notice.
- Any individual that receives 3 unsportsmanlike penalties in one sport will be ineligible for further competition in that sport and subject to further suspension from future Intramural contests.
- Any team that receives 5 unsportsmanlike penalties in one sport will automatically be dropped from competition and the captain will be subject to further suspension from future Intramural contests.
- Individual unsportsmanlike penalties will carry over from sport to sport.
- Once a participant receives a 3rd unsportsmanlike penalty during the course of the school year, they will automatically be suspended from all intramural competition for one week.
- If a participant receives a 4th unsportsmanlike penalty during the course of the school year, they will automatically be suspended from all intramural competition for three weeks.
- If a participant receives a 5th unsportsmanlike penalty during the course of the school year, they will be automatically ineligible from all intramural competition for the remainder for ONE Calendar year. Suspensions will carry over each semester and can carry over to the next school year.
- For those individuals who have been suspended, they must have a reinstatement meeting with the Intramural Coordinator. It is their responsibility to initiate this process with the Intramural Coordinator. If they do not have the reinstatement meeting, they will not be eligible to participate until they have this meeting.
Outdoor Sports Weather & Field Use Policy
Thunder and Lightning Policy
Once you hear thunder and or see lightning, you must seek shelter until 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder and or vision of lightning. When you first see lightning or hear thunder, that is the time to take action. Go to a building or a vehicle. Lightning often precedes rain, so don’t wait for the rain to begin before suspending activities. Club teams are expected to adhere to this policy independently.

Weather Safety
- Do not use field if frost is on the grass. This could cause permanent damage.
- Cancel outdoor activities and seek shelter indoors at the first sight of lightning or if you hear thunder.
- RecWell has the right to cancel field activities if field conditions are deemed unsafe.
Practice Track & Field General Rules
- Use by 海角社区students, faculty and staff
- General public use requires a reservation and a rental fee
- No sports drinks, soda, coffee or beverages other than water
- No glass or metal beverage containers
- No food. No seeds, nuts, gum or tobacco
- No bikes, scooters or unauthorized vehicles
- No Spitting
- No Pets
- Unauthorized use of the facility are subject to removal
- No trespassing when facility is locked
- Open-rec track and field use is unsupervised and at your own risk. In case of emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest blue-post emergency call box to contact Campus Police.
Turf Field, North Field, and South Field Rules
- Approved equipment only*
- No golf practice
- No hanging on goals
- No marking of lines on turf with paint, tape, etc.*
- No moving goals*
- No tent stakes
- No sharp objects (i.e. flags penetrating into the turf, croquet stakes, etc.)
- No metal cleats. Only molded cleats or athletic shoes.
- No grilling
Practice Track Rules
- No golf carts or vehicles without advanced approval by RecWell administration.
- Athletic shoes only. No track spikes without pre-approval.
Pickleball Court Rules
- Access is through the Student Wellness Complex (SWC). Osprey ID card required for access.
- All users must be current students, faculty/staff, or possess an SWC membership. Osprey ID cards must be presented upon request by Recreation & Wellness staff and/or other university officials.
- Hours of operation
- Courts will be available based on the Student Wellness Complex schedule
- Recreation & Wellness programs and events have priority usage of the facility
- Courts may be closed to support Athletic events
- Use of the facility is on a first-come, first-serve basis, unless the facility is reserved.
- Athletic attire is required. Shoes must have rubber soles.
- Courts are for pickleball activities. Skateboarding, roller skating and rollerblading are prohibited.
- Nets and other equipment may not be moved without permission of Recreation & Wellness staff.
- Report all maintenance issues, emergencies, vandalism or misuse of Recreation & Wellness facilities immediately to Recreation & Wellness (904-620-5341) or compsports@unf.edu
- Entering the courts when it is locked is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action. Do not climb the fence.
- Do not draw or paint on the courts.
- Activities deemed dangerous, improper, or violate the intended use are prohibited.
- All waste should be placed in appropriate containers.
- Recreation and Wellness is not responsible for any personal items left unattended and/or unsecured on the courts.
- Coolers are subject to inspection upon request by Recreation & Wellness staff, and/or other University officials.
- The following items are prohibited:
- Pets, with the exception of service animals
- Glass containers
- Alcohol
- Tobacco products
- Seek shelter if lightning or thunder are heard. Follow weather safety guidance from Recreation & Wellness, Athletics, or university staff.
Eco Adventure
Environmental Education
- Environmental Education programs are scheduled in advance online
- School teachers and chaperones are expected to remain with the group and to provide supervision of the participants while RecWell staff lead and facilitate the activities.
Gear Checkout & Trips
Check-Out Policies
- Gear check-out is only available to currently enrolled students
- Items can be rented for day use on campus or up to 7 days off campus
- Students may renew the gear if they bring the gear back along with their ID to extend their checkout. Anytime beyond those two weeks items are subject to late fees
- Students are limited to one paddleboard or kayak per ID
- Any and all damages must be noted prior to check-out
- All equipment must be returned during regular operating hours and in person by the person that rented the gear. Any equipment returned or left at the rental counter during non-operating hours will not be returned and late fees will accumulate until the equipment is returned in person and during operating hours.
- Camping on campus using Gear Checkout equipment or personal equipment is prohibited.
Late Charges
- All late fees will be charged on student's MyWings account
- Late Fees are $10.00 per day per items checked out.
- If fees exceed 10 working days or total worth of equipment is established in late fees, the total amount for the gear will be charged to the respective MyWings account
Cleaning Charges
- Returned items are expected reasonably clean and dry
- Do not wash or dry sleeping bags
Osprey Challenge Course & Sky Park
- These activities are led by trained RecWell staff. Participants should follow staff guidance for use of facility.
- Gear (helmets, harness) are provided and must be worn throughout activity.
John M. Golden Pavilion
- Users are welcome to bring their own food and refreshments or use UNF's preferred vendor, Mayes Catering Services (904) 249-8437.
- Alcohol is not permitted
- Users will be billed for all staff time and additional rental fee if the event exceeds the contract time limits.
- If you have to cancel your party you must notify us at least 48 hours prior to your party to avoid getting charged the entire amount. If you cancel more than 48 hours prior to the party you will get a refund, with the exception of the $25 non-refundable deposit.
- You can pay by check or credit card (3% fee applied to credit card purchases). You will be charged a $25 non-refundable deposit when you book in order to reserve your party, which will be deducted from the party package price. You will also pay the amount when you book your program.
Nature Trails
- Not Permitted: animals (except service animals), bicycles, motor vehicles, alcohol, weapons, metal detectors, camping, fires, plant or animal collection/release/harassment
- Open during daylight hours only, 365 days per year
- Nature Trails & Picnic Areas
- Groups are welcome but must be registered with rectrail@unf.edu and have a contract prior to their arrival.
- Picnic areas are first come first serve
- Enjoy natural areas at your own risk; follow all posted signs
- For your safety, walk or run in pairs; note red numbered posts
- Campfires are not allowed on ground; grills for cooking are okay
- Report interesting visitors or wildlife
- Campus Bodies of Water
- No swimming or diving
- No harassing wildlife
- No plant or animal collection or releasing
- Fishing
- Catch and release only
- No live fish as bait (ie. shiners, etc.)
- Dispose of fishing line in trash receptacles appropriately
- Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission license regulations apply
- Boating
- Vessels available through Gear Checkout may be used on the lake; unauthorized vessels not permitted.
- Personal flotation device required for every person
- Be prepared and watch the weather
Student Wellness Complex
General Policies
- A valid Osprey ID Card is required for access into the activity spaces
- Alcohol, illegal drugs and tobacco products are NOT permitted.
- Food and drinks are permitted ONLY in the lobby and cafe area. Only plastic closed container water bottles or bottled water is allowed in activity spaces.
- Injuries, accidents or equipment failures must be reported immediately to staff.
- Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Personal belongings are not permitted in activity areas and must be kept in a locker or cubbies which are provided to patrons. Any personal belongings found by staff or brought to the front desk will be held for 30 days. Valuable items are immediately turned in to UPD.
- Please consult a physician prior to engaging in physical activity. Recreation and Sports Services is not responsible for accidents or injuries that occur due to the nature of the activity.
- Proper closed-toe/closed-heel, non-marking athletic shoes are required in all activity areas.
- No derogatory or threatening statements towards others.
- Appropriate clothing is required in activity spaces.
- Only SWC staff may conduct movement of any equipment.
- Headphones must be used when listening to music.
- Picture taking and/or videotaping is prohibited unless authorized by staff.
- No pets allowed. Service animals assisting a person with a disability are permitted when in compliance with 海角社区regulation.
- Emotional support animals are not permitted.
- No motorized vehicles, bikes, skateboards, roller blades, or roller skates are allowed to be used in the building.
- A modification of equipment beyond its designed purpose is prohibited.
- Announcements will be made 15 minutes prior to building closing to allow for locker room use; all patrons must be out of the building by closing time.
- Any individual and/or organization not fully complying with the SWC policies and guidelines or cooperating with the staff may be asked to vacate the premises and may have their privileges revoked.
- All individuals must gain access to the facility through Member Services Desk.
- All patrons must comply with staff directives. Recreation and Wellness staff has authority in emergency situations and regarding facility conduct and use of equipment.

Dottie Dorion Fitness Center
- Proper exercise attire is required.
- Sports bras are permitted.
- Closed toed/heeled shoes are required.
- Food and open top drinks are permitted ONLY in the lobby, Jamba Juice area, and patio.
- RecWell is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Personal belongings are to be kept in a locker or in a cubby.
- Patrons may not leave their personal items at the DDFC desk or use the DDFC computer.
- Anything found around the desk will be taken to lost and found immediately.
- Members may not connect or use the DDFC computer for any reason.
- Equipment needs to be wiped down after each use.
- Return equipment and weights to proper location when finished with them.
- The use of collars on barbells with plates is strongly recommended.
- Report any injuries or broken equipment to staff.
- Headphones must be used when listening to music.
- A modification of equipment beyond its designed purpose is prohibited.
- All equipment must be used in a manner for which it was designed.
- Large equipment is not to be moved from designated areas.
- Weight benches and weight plates can be moved for various exercises.
- Picture taking and/or videotaping is prohibited unless authorized by a SWC manager.
- No yelling in the facility.
- The minimum age to use the facility is 18 years old (unless enrolled as a student). Currently enrolled students under 18 will be provided a release form for guardian or parental signature prior to authorization of facility use.
- Only authorized 海角社区trainers and instructors are allowed to train/teach members.
- Anyone suspected of conducting their own fitness classes/personal training sessions will be asked to stop.
- All full-size barbells must stay within the close proximity to the racks.
- Deadlifts in front of barbell benches is permitted as long as they are in close proximity to the bench.
- Performing barbell bicep curls within a squat rack or over a barbell bench is permitted.
- Doing standing barbell shoulder press within a squat rack is permitted but doing this exercise over a bench press is not.
- Diamond bar deadlifts cannot be done on the Olympic lifting platform unless using bumper plates.
- Farmer’s carries can be done with the diamond bar only behind the squat racks.
- Box step ups may only be performed in the squat racks (not on bench press benches).
- Glute bridges may be done with the bar perpendicular to bench press bench or in a rack.
- Only one barbell is allowed in a rack area (Olympic lifting platforms included).
- Deadlifting/lifting in space behind a used squat rack/bench press is prohibited.
- All Olympic lifts (snatch, clean, jerk) must be done within a rack/platform.
- Barbell lifts are not permitted in the open space of the Crossprey Fit area.
- Patrons are limited to 40 minutes on all racks during peak hours (4 PM-close).
- The EZ curl bar may be used anywhere in the free weight area for non-traveling exercises.
- The EZ curl bar is not permitted for loaded walking lunges.
- No excessive amount of weight on a BOSU or stability ball (tip: think what would be used for a group fitness class).
- Upside down crunches on pull-up bar/monkey bar and skinning the cat, etc. are not permitted
- Stretching against or exercising on the large white poles is prohibited.
- All handstand push-ups and wall ball tosses need to be done in the Crossprey Fit area.
- No heavy equipment or slamming allowed on the patio floor.
- Lightweight equipment (jump rope, agility ladders, mats, etc), rowers, air dyne/assault bikes are permitted on the patio.
- Any member doing an exercise that is ‘unsafe’ will be asked to stop the exercise.
- All patrons must comply with staff requests.
- Any individual and/or organization not fully complying with the SWC policies and guidelines or cooperating with the staff may be asked to vacate the premises and may have their privileges revoked.
- E-cigarettes/vape pens are not permitted in the building.
- Leaning/sitting on ledges near the glass windows is prohibited.
- Refrain from leaving items on the 3rd floor railings.
- Benches cannot be placed on any of the platforms.
- Sled pushing guidelines:
- Must be done behind 2nd row of the cardio area (behind ellipticals)
- Cannot use benches or ropes ßrefer to the rope machine if needed.
- Weights may only be pushed while on carpet sliders.
- Patrons are not permitted to bring their own barbells or large equipment into the Student Wellness Complex.
- Equipment that can be brought in: foam rollers, yoga mats, weight belts, lifting shoes, wrist wraps, knee sleeves, chalk, gloves, clips, resistance bands, and various stretching/mobility equipment.
Indoor Track
- Track distance = 1/8 mile = 8 laps per mile
- The direction of the track changes between clockwise/counterclockwise depending on the day of the week. (See sign at the top of the stairwell & elevator).
- Proper closed-toed/closed heeled, non-marking athletic shoes are required. Spikes or cleats are not permitted on the jogging track.
- Faster joggers have right of way; pass on the outside lanes.
Group Fitness Classes
- The minimum age to use the facility is 18 years old. (unless enrolled as a student). Currently enrolled students under 18 will be provided a release form for guardian or parental signature prior to authorization of facility use.

- Food and open top drinks are permitted ONLY in the 1st floor lobby areas & on the patio.

- Proper attire is defined as wearing a shirt & closed toed/closed heeled shoes.
- Working out without a shirt (guys) is not permitted. Girls may wear sports bras.
- Facility staff only may conduct movement of any equipment.
- Headphones must be used when listening to music.
- Picture taking and/or videotaping is prohibited unless authorized by an SWC manager.
- No pets allowed. Service animals assisting a person with a disability are permitted when in compliance with 海角社区regulation.

Member Services
Osprey Cliff
- Remove jewelry, empty pockets, and use safety straps for glasses
- Use Osprey Cliff provided equipment or use climbing-specific equipment checked by the Osprey Cliff staff on shift.
- Chalk must be in chalk bags
- Osprey Cliff equipment stays in the cliff area—this includes trips to the restroom
- Climbing shoes cannot be worn outside the cliff. They will scuff the facility floors. If climbing shoes aren’t used you must climb with approved closed-toe shoes.
- Properly care for climbing equipment. Don’t step on ropes, drop or throw karabiners and belay devices, etc.
- Follow your rope to avoid excessive swinging. Keep the rope between your arms. Maintain awareness of where a fall will take you, keeping yourself in a position to fall, swing, lower, and land safely.
- All belays must be anchored
- Report all problems such as injuries, loose holds, and equipment damage to Osprey Cliff staff immediately.
- Bouldering on the climbing wall is not permitted above the blue/white checkered tape. The tape is located three panels up and no one should pass that line. Your head should not pass above the third panel. Bouldering should not occur below roped climbers.
- Osprey Cliff staff are available for assistance, but the safety of climbers and equipment is ultimately the responsibility of the participants.
- Communication between the climber and the belayer is very important. Staff members should check all knots and hook-ups before each climb.
- Climbing without a rope is allowed on the bouldering area and on the first three panels of the main climbing wall.
- Do not boulder under climbers.
- Spotters are recommended.
