Service and Leadership Theme Community
The Service and Leadership Theme Community is for students interested in integrating into campus life through a community service and leadership lens. The S&L Theme Community provides opportunities to engage with campus and community organizations while providing a foundation for education of important global, national and local issues. The Theme Community will provide students opportunities for experiential, hands-on application of key leadership concepts and skills while participating in civic and community engagement work. The S&L Theme Community helps students explore their own values, goals and leadership identity in the context of individual responsibility to grow into citizens of the world through deliberative dialogue and civic engagement.
Eligibility & Course Requirements
- Complete the Housing Contract & LLC and Interest Housing Application
- Interest and passion for doing service and leadership
- Be an active member of the community throughout the academic year
- Live in TBD with the Service and Leadership community
- Support/Attend Living-Learning Community events and programs
Objectives
- Work with faculty, staff and community partners to explore and address issues of community need
- Engage in reflective practice to explore and identify personal emerging leadership identity, philosophy and style
- Participate in interactive hands-on activities and service projects, and demonstrate their community impact
- Develop a greater understanding of the global interdependence of today’s world
- Learn to recognize opportunities for positive change from a local and global perspective
