Component 2: PREP to Teach

Be a Difference Maker. Earn your B.A. in Elementary Education!

This program for undergraduate students is a partnership between the 海角社区 and for those dedicated to elementary education and who have a desire to make a difference in the lives of underserved elementary students. 

Juniors, begin your field placement in Clay County!

Project PREP Juniors Receive:

  • $1,000 of financial support at the start of fall 2023 when enrolled in Field 1
  • $1,000 of financial support at the start of spring 2024 when enrolled in Field 2
  • Mentorship and support from high-quality elementary teachers and university faculty
  • Opportunity to teach in a high-needs school with underserved students

Junior Eligibility:

  • Admission into the 海角社区elementary education program
  • Interest in a field placement at a Title 1, high needs school in Clay County 
  • Commitment to meeting the learning needs of all students
  • Commitment to your junior year field experiences (Field 1 and 2) in Clay County

Seniors, begin your field placement in Clay County!

Seniors, with PREP you can..

  • Earn $14,500 in financial support (living stipend and other supports) during your senior year
  • Be in the same classroom with a certified mentor teacher for the entire school year
  • Be a paid substitute for your mentor teacher and school site
  • Receive up to three years of continued connection and support from your Osprey family
  • Participate in teacher and student research
  • Receive ongoing coaching and mentoring to support your development as a teacher

Senior Eligibility:

  • A strong commitment to meeting the needs of all students
  • Successful completion of elementary education junior-year coursework
  • Willingness to teach in high-need schools

Project PREP’s mission is to enhance the recruitment, preparation, induction and retention of teachers and teacher leaders across the teacher pipeline in a high-need school district. Become a mentor teacher and shape the next generation of teachers!

Project PREP provides

  • $2,500 Stipend
  • SUS Voucher (equivalent to 6 hours of coursework at a public Florida institution)
  • Opportunity to participate or present as a team at a state or national conference

Mentor Teacher Criteria

  • Florida professional certification
  • 3 years of teaching experience
  • Principal recommendation
  • Effective to highly effective evaluations
  • Clinical Educator Trained (CET)
  • Reading endorsed
  • ESOL endorsed
