Master of Science in Health Informatics

The Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) prepares students for careers as Clinical and Nursing Informaticists, Health Information Managers, Data Analysts, Chief Information Officers, and other health information roles in any organization that utilizes healthcare data in decision making. The program coursework is offered primarily online. Courses are available in an online asynchronous format. Palm Coast (Flagler, Volusia, and St. John's County) area residents have the opportunity to voluntarily participate in an in-person orientation, concierge advising, and face-to-face educational experiences. While strongly encouraged to benefit the educational experience, all in-person activities are optional.  The online coursework is comprised of 11 courses (33 credits total) offered through the Department of Health Administration in the Brooks College of Health in partnership with the Coggin College of Business and the College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction.

This degree provides foundational knowledge to prepare students for board certification in Clinical Informatics, Nursing Informatics, Information Management, and Data Analytics. Job prospects for students in health informatics are extremely promising given the explosive growth of technology and big data in healthcare. Graduates of this program will be able to pursue careers working with health data, electronic health records, clinical systems, health information standards including privacy, and medical coding applications.  

Prerequisites

Completion of undergraduate courses in

  • Statistics (海角社区equivalent STA 2023or STA 2014)
  • Basic computing (海角社区equivalent CGS 1570CGS 1100)
  • General business such as management or marketing (海角社区equivalent MAN 3025or MAR 3203)
  • Medical terminology for applicants with non-clinical undergraduate degrees (海角社区equivalent HSA 2530)

Delivery

Coursework will be completely online.
