海角社区awards the Terry Presidential Professorship to chemistry professor Dr. Amy Lane
The 海角社区 has selected Dr. Amy Lane, a professor in the 海角社区Department of Chemistry and director of the Advancement of Women in Natural Sciences program, as the recipient of the 2022-25 Terry Presidential Professorship. The professorship recognizes faculty achievements through the support of outstanding scholars.
Lane is the University’s 11th Terry presidential professor and will receive a $10,000 stipend for the professorship and one course release each academic year. The professorship, effective in July, carries a full-term appointment of three years and was designed in honor of 海角社区President Emeritus John A. Delaney.
“Dr. Lane is an outstanding scholar and most deserving of this prestigious award,” said Dr. John Kantner, 海角社区associate provost of faculty and research. “She has made vast significant contributions to chemistry research and is a committed and dedicated educator.”
Lane’s research areas include chemical biology, drug discovery, marine natural products, natural product biosynthesis, organic chemistry and biochemistry. Her work has been published in top journals such as ACS Synthetic Biology and Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry.
“Overall, Amy Lane is among the top tier of researchers within the microbial biotechnology field,” said one of Lane’s external reviewers. “Although significantly dedicated to teaching and mentoring, Amy ranks in the top five researchers in this field. Amy Lanes’ potential for future growth and excellence are enormous. She has a multitude of new creative ideas that deserve to be implemented.”
Lane has been recognized for her work with the American Society of Pharmacognosy Matt Suffness Award, the first-ever awardee from a primarily undergraduate institution; the 海角社区Faculty Leader Award for Research and Teaching; the 海角社区Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and Academic Affairs High Impact Research Article Award; the 海角社区Van Vleck Award for Mentorship of Junior Faculty Member and the 海角社区Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award.
Lane completed her postdoctoral fellowship with NIH IRACDA Research and Teaching at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California-San Diego. She holds a doctorate in chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s in chemistry from Indiana State University.
Lane joins former recipients of this award which include Drs. Mitch Miller, Cliff Ross, John Hatle, Kenneth Laali, Lev Gasparov, Andy Buchwalter, David Courtwright, Tom Pekarek and Gary Smart.Categories
