Description:

About sixteen species of Gazania are native to southern Africa. This is the best known species in the United States. It is grows less than one foot tall depending on the variety. At three to four inches across, the daisy flowers seem disproportionately large for the plant. Flower colors are in a range of white, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple. Often, flowers have bands or stripes of two or more colors.

Location:

Plants are used seasonally during the summer in sunny locations.

Size:

Gazanias grow from about six to nine inches tall.

Care Instructions:

Light: full sun to part shade

Water: very drought tolerant

Soil: well-drained soil is essential, no other special requirements

Gazania grows well in the Jacksonville area provided the soil is very well-drained. It does not tolerate wet soils for long, especially in the winter. Typically, it grows as a short-lived perennial but it will reseed in a suitable site.
