Description:

About nine species of Agapanthus are native to southern Africa. Most garden plants are hybrids. Agapathus have strap-like evergreen or deciduous leaves (depending on the variety) emerging from an underground bulb. Summer flowers are borne in rounded clusters on tall stalks, in white and shades of blue. Depending on the variety, these spikes may be eighteen inches to five feet in height.

See plants in front of the library (12), on the east side of building 39, and in front of building 51.

Size:

Small herbaceous plant with flower spikes ranging from eighteen inches to five feet tall, depending on the cultivar.

Care Instructions:

Light: part shade, full sun with irrigation

Water: drought tolerant once established

Soil: average soil, wide pH tolerance, no special requirements

In the north Florida garden, these plants are very sturdy and long-lived. Plant them in sun or shade, in a well-drained soil.
